A blog or blogging, short for website log is an online journal or informational website displaying information. It is basically a website where new content is frequently published, typically written in an informal or conversational style, often with the goal of attracting readers and achieving some sort of goal, whether community building or growing a business.

There are broadly 3 purposes of blog and blogging:

1. Provide information to people on your blog

Write about services, products or experiences so that people know more about it and make informed decisions. We live in a post-industrial, service-sector-heavy civilization which means that people are coming to you because you have knowledge, skills, and capacities that they might not possess.

The beauty of a well-managed blog is that it can help your readers find you. It’s your very own digital storefront, so as long as you give people the information they’re looking for they are likely to be quite interested and engaged.

2. Establishes yourself as a trusted authority

Today, whenever we have a problem we try finding solutions on Google and select the first few listed options for our resolution.

Similarly, the more blog entries you have means more content, and more chances to rank high in a particular keyword search.

However, if you have a relatively active blog that covers different aspects of addressing your query, it will make you seem more credible and authoritative than someone who does not have a blog or a fairly inactive blog with a few generic posts.

3. Exposure leading to sales through your blog and blogging

Once you are an established and trusted authority, your Blaudience is more likely to buy from you, which could also be due to the constant exposure to your brand.

A basic structure of a blog. Header, Main content/body, Sidebar, and the footer.

According to a psychological phenomenon, Familiarity principle makes people develop a preference for familiar things. So the better you are ranked in the Search Engine Result Pages (SERP’s), the better is your viewership leading to a familiar brand.

    • I do understand. I have seen this in the earlier #BlogHop also that most bloggers are writing their hearts out and not looking for any income through it. However, it is just a little more effort and you can make a living out of something you love. Though I appreciate everybody’s work, there is no harm in trying new things is what I believe in. At the end of the day, that’s how we learn. Isn’t it?

  1. I started in the first category but over the period of time, point number 2 has also added to it. One has to be Blogging consistently if they want to build their name as a brand.

    • Exactly. Once you start getting some light and work with consistency, you WILL grow.
Thanks for stopping by Dimple 🙂

  2. I started blogging two decades ago just as a hobby. For me it’s still a hobby. But for many it seems to have become a profession. How the world changes!

  3. Pursuits of fame and fortune are why people start blogging; however, the purpose of a blog doesn’t have the be driven by money – atleast with this thought I started off in 2004 and still enjoying the blog stardom. You can blog about anything. In all likelihood, someone wants to hear it, and you can expand your own horizons by interacting with readers and other bloggers – I definitely go by this purpose of blogging. If you are a hit, you can bring in big bucks. With patience and practice, you can make money through advertising on your blog. There are also ways to make money from a blog without ads. With my experience I would say that most of them
don’t make any money, but the potential does exist to generate revenue from your blog with hard work and commitment – You can count me as one of them.

  4. I started blogging because I wanted to write on a blog, rather than in my diary, hoping to develop more confidence with time. Blogging did help in this regard. What I am struggling with the most now is discipline… I so need to blog regularly.

  5. Information simplified is the best way to tell others how to go ahead with the blogging scene. You have penchant to explain things easily, look forward to read more posts from the series.

    • There are a lot of aspects that go behind building a blog that generates money. Like keyword research, SEO, optimal content and many more. It’s a tedious and time taking process, but if you assure following a few steps it’s bound to happen.
Let me know if you need help with anything.
